The Key to Having Motivated and Productive Employees

When is comes to keeping employees happy and creating workspaces the foster creativity and innovation, Google is the company first comes to mind for many. This is because Google is famous for its staff perks such as pool tables, bowling alleys, gym memberships, napping pods, and free food. Organizations all over the world are catching on to Google's philosophy and starting to adapt these features themselves. This is because "organizations that foster a workplace culture of creativity are likely to have happy, motivated employees, who are more loyal and more productive" (Coleman, 2016).

Productivity is an important factor in being efficient and profitable. According to William Lazonick, "organizations enhance productivity by first developing then utilizing the productive resources they have under their control"(Lazonick, p. 77). This includes things such as organizational structure. Google's structure keeps employees happy, fosters creativity, innovation and collaboration, which in turn increases productivity. Furthermore, Google's ability to create a workspace that encourages people from different departments, with different ideas, to collaborate is also part of the reason they are so innovative.

Another organization that does something similar is Laurier LaunchPad. LaunchPad is Laurier's incubator and accepts all types of business, not solely tech startups. By doing so, entrepreneurs are able to mingle with different founders from different industries and are able to collaborate with one another, creating a cross-pollination of culture and ideas.
